Netflix heeft het duizelingwekkende aantal van 118 nominaties voor de Emmy Awards weten te vergaren. De 71e editie van de Emmy Awards wordt op zondag 22 september in Los Angeles gehouden. Namens Netflix hebben When They See Us en Russian Doll de grootste kans op een gouden beeldje, zij kregen liefst 16 en 13 nominaties.
Russian Doll en When They See Us
In de strijd om de totaal aantal nominaties moest Netflix nog wel HBO voor zich dulden. Het slotseizoen van Game of Thrones (32), de bejubelde miniserie Chernobyl (19) en Sharp Objects hadden een groot aandeel in de 137 nominaties. Namens Netflix was When They See Us dus de serie met de meeste nominaties. Russian Doll ontving er eveneens dertien, wat het nog opvallender maakt dat het lang duurde voor Netflix besloot om de serie te verlengen met een tweede seizoen.
Ozark en Black Mirror
In de belangrijkste drie categorieën is Netflix telkens vertegenwoordigd. Ozark gaat op voor de beste dramaserie, net zoals Better Call Saul en Bodyguard. Dit zijn series van AMC en de BBC, die in ons land als Netflix Originals zijn verschenen. Russian Doll maakt kans op de beste komedieserie, net zoals The Good Place. When They See Us is genomineerd voor de beste limited serie en lijkt een hele spannende strijd uit te gaan vechten met Chernobyl. Voor de beste televisiefilm is zoals bijna ieder jaar een episode van Black Mirror genomineerd. Ditmaal de interactieve film Bandersnatch.
